Keep in Step
The New Year brings me both exciting hope for a fresh new thing, while simultaneously overwhelming me with the thought of accomplishing (and possibly failing at) those “new things.”
Anyone else???
My to-do list already feels like it is stacked up on me, and I find it challenging to fight the urge to chisel away at it in every spare moment.
If I’m being honest with myself, it’s easy to find my worth (and my identity) in the ability to produce because we live in a culture that celebrates it.
But what would it look like to go at a different pace…free from the pressure to constantly produce or perform?
Back in December, God began bringing Galatians 5:25 to my mind.
“If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25 (ESV)
And just like He does when He doesn’t want me to miss something important, He continued bringing it back to my attention over and over again.
Keep in step.
Keep in step.
Keep in step.
As daughters of the Most High King, He has put His Spirit in us to help us, comfort us, teach us, give us hope and lead us in wisdom and truth.
We can trust His grace-filled pace, resting in our God-given identity.
His pace holds no pressure, just surrender.
God has personal, unique, and beautiful plans for your life this year. He made you for it, and He promises to strengthen and equip you for it.
The freedom and hope offered by His Spirit living within us means we can live without the stress of perfection or achieving every goal. Instead, we focus on daily surrender and obedience to His guidance.
His way and His pace is perfect. Always.
So I’m praying for you…
That this year would be a year of
“keeping in step” with Him,
trusting that He will lead and guide
you to what is best with every
sunrise and sunset,
and that you release the
pressure to perform
with every step you take.
